Step By Step Installation Tutorial

1. First, you need to take your Xbox 360 apart. If you don’t know how to do this, read this guide. Once you have it taken apart disconnect the cables to the backside of the DVD and set it aside for the time being. Once you have removed the DVD you will see two cables plugged into the Xbox 360 motherboard. One is a Sata cable and one is the DVD power cable (this is the multi wired cable with a white adapter on the end). Remove both cables, you won’t be needing those any more.

2. First install the Sata Exchange Unit (#10) to the metal case of the Xbox. You will notice that each connector is color coordinated to make installation as simple as possible. Peel the off the paper to expose the sticky foam insulated pad and attach to the metal case.

3. Now take the Motherboard to DVD Cable  (#8) and plug the white connector to motherboard, then you will see there are 3 cables with blue, white & green 2 pin adapters. Feed those through the case, they will connect to the Blaster CK3 later.

4. Now plug the green adapter from the Mother to DVD Cable (#8) into the back of the DVD drive. Make sure it is plugged in the correct way around. You will notice there is another cable with a 3 pin white adapter, this is for the Blaster CK3 Probe (#11) which is used only if you have a Liteon 74850C drive. This is a temporary connection and used only when you are going to extract the DVD key from that drive. If you have a Liteon 74850C DVD Drive then follow hook up the Blaster Ck3 as per this tutorial but do not put the case back together as you will need to take the back off the DVD drive and use the CK3 Probe in order to get your DVD key. This only needs to be done once – Probe information is at the bottom of this page.

5. Now connect the the L shaped connector of the Sata cable (#2) to the motherboard and connect the other straight end to the bottom port of the Sata Exchange Unit (#10). Then Connect the Sata Cable (#3) to the back of the DVD and to the top connector of the Sata Exchange Unit (#10)

6. Now take the Sata Exchange Unit Cable (#9) and feed the cables through the case and connect the cables to the Sata Exchange Unit (#10). Everything is color coordinated so its really easy.

8. OK now that’s pretty much most of the hard work done!  Now reassemble the Xbox 360 case. Leave the side where the Blaster CK3 cables are showing through the case until last. First connect the top part of the case that covers the DVD drive area.

9. Turn the case over and insert the 6 screws you removed using the provided Torx 10 screwdriver.

10. Reconnect the eject button. Don’t forget to do this or you will have to take the Xbox apart again at a later stage. Reconnect the other half of the case and clip the front down first, then clip the rear part of the case down. Connect the side panel to the case (NOT the panel that the Hard Drive would normally connect to – this is where the Blaster will be placed)

11. Turn the Xbox over to the side where the cables are showing. This is where we are going to connect the Blaster CK3.

Now reconnect the Xbox 360 front face plate and and then you can connect your hard drive if you have one.

How to operate the Blaster CK3

The function of the Blaster CK3 is very simple. You have Xbox 360 mode and PC Mode. For the 360 to operate as normal as if the Blaster was not installed switch both switches to XB360 and move the power switch to off.

When you want to write to your DVD drive simply push the main switch to PC and turn the power switch to ON (The Mode switch can be set to OFF – you can set Modeb via software on all Hitachi models using the latest Jungle Flasher – we have included a Modeb switch just in case someone requires it). Then connect the Xbox 360 power supply unit and you can now connect your Xbox to your PC using a Sata cable.

You can use the Serial RS232 or the USB ports if you have the Liteon 74850C DVD drive. Otherwise you only need to use the Sata port.

Blaster CK3 Vendor Mode (Half Tray Eject Trick):

The Liteon drive requires you to have the tray half ejected for it to kick into vendor mode in Jungle Flasher. This is a very simple trick where many many seem to mess up on and wonder why they get 0000000000 as a bad DVD key. The process with the Blaster Ck3 is simple:

  1. Power on Xbox with Blaster Ck3 enabled in firmware mode.
  2. Press eject on the Blaster Ck3 (Button is down)
  3. Power off the Xbox 360
  4. Press eject again on the Blaster Ck3 (Button is up)
  5. Push the tray manually half way in
  6. Power on the Xbox 360
  7. Use Jungle Flasher to read the DVD key (make sure you use the included Probe Tool if you have a Liteon 74850C)

warning

Warning

DO NOT connect the USB cable if you don’t have a Liteon 74850C DVD drive and DO NOT use the Blaster CK3 Probe on a Liteon 83850C or 93450C DVD Drive – you may cause damage to your Xbox Drive and Blaster CK3.

Blaster CK3 Probe:

The Probe is used when you have a Liteon 74850C DVD Drive – DO NOT use the Probe or USB/Serial cable on ANY other Liteon drive !!!

The Probe cable is connected to the DVD Green Block connector. It is a white 3 pin adapter. Make sure you connect the probe to the correct point on the DVD motherboard. When powered and connected the Probe will show a Green & Blue LED. if you touch an extra ground or voltage on the DVD drive you may cause damage to the Probe so please be careful. You only have to do this once. As soon as you have your key using Jungle Flasher you can unplug the prbe and put your Xbox back together.

Xbox Live – Some Test Results

Having seen the banhammer going nuts these last couple of weeks, it was inevatble that the speculation about how and why – some comments being smart and calculated, some being positivley stupid.

However out of shear curiosity we figured we’d throw our own speculation into the wind and share with you a couple of tests we did that showed interesting results (but by all means conclusive). Remember – this is SPECULATION !

Scenario: 4 Xbox’s. Unused – all Liteon 74580C (March 2009).

Box 1: Connect virgin to Live. Let it do all the latest live updates. Flash to iXtreme v1.6. No backup games.

Box 2: Connect virgin to Live. Let it do all the latest live updates. Flash to iXtreme v1.6. Play Fifa 10 backup (abgx verified).

Box 3: Flash to iXtreme v1.6 out of the box. Connect to live. Let it do all the latest live updates. No backup games.

Box 4: Flash to iXtreme v1.6 out of the box. Connect to live. Let it do all the latest live updates. Play Fifa 10 backup (abgx verified).

Results after 1 week.

Box 1: Still on Live.
Box 2: Still on Live.
Box 3: Banned ?

abgx360 v1.0.2

abgx360 v1.0.2 has been officially released.

Special Note: It’s recommended to wait for iXtreme LT (Lite Touch) before you play any more backups or originals on an unbanned console flashed with custom firmware.

Changes affecting all platforms:

  • Added support for 4th Wave PFI/Video
  • Added support for SS v2
  • Added the new check for DMI corruption which the database has been using since 2009/06/14
  • Added ability to at least try to verify the game data when no Xex/SS ini is available and we’re not going to AutoFix
  • Added support for Avatar Awards
  • Added option to select your preferred language to use when displaying strings from the Xex title resource
  • Added drag & drop support for the GUI Input panel
  • Added option to embed images in the HTML source code as data URIs for better portability (when using HTML output)
  • Added JavaScript to HTML output that allows you to check off achievements and see the achieved text (especially useful when the how-to text is vague)
  • Added a Donate button to the GUI so you can help me pay the bills and continue working on improvements :)
  • Removed “Look for verified files in the local folder only” option from the GUI. I can’t tell you how many people have checked this box without reading it because they saw it in a tutorial or someone else told them to do it, and then they can’t figure out why abgx360 says you need to enable online functions. Please stop writing/following tutorials! Just read the Quickstart topics, the tutorial is right there.
  • Checking for updates to GameNameLookup.csv is now optional (the csv was eating 50% of our bandwidth and you probably don’t need it anyway since the game name can be retrieved directly from the Xex)
  • Fixed a bug where folders would be considered files when parsing the ISO filesystem on some recent games
  • Fixed a bug where default.pe (a temporary file used when decompressing a compressed default.xex) wasn’t being deleted automatically
  • Fixed a bug where unicode code point 160 (no-break space) would be displayed in a CLI window as ” ?” instead of ” “
  • Small changes to the way some messages are displayed (harder to miss)

Changes affecting Windows:

  • Now storing data files in the AppData folder to prevent errors related to permissions and UAC. You can open the GUI and hit Ctrl+F to find out where your StealthFiles are now stored and optionally have it opened for you. abgx360 will still check for Video ISOs in the old install directory first though, so you don’t need to move that 3rd Wave Video ISO if you have it saved there already.
  • Using libcurl 7.19.6 which should hopefully fix some strange connection problems affecting a small percentage of users

Changes affecting Linux/BSD:

  • Fixed a bug on 64 bit systems which made it impossible to read PFI/Video exceptions from abgx360.dat
  • Added code to the unix version of kbhit() to prevent hanging when abgx360 is launched as a background process

Changes affecting Mac OS X:

  • Fixed a bug where abgx360 would fail to launch if you supplied a filename that contained an apostrophe
  • Changed the dark gray text used for things like achievement type to normal gray since it was actually showing up black (invisible on a black background)
  • Removed GUI option to “Use Terminal font characters” (this refers to a Windows font which replicates CP437 characters and not Terminal.app)
